The partners have litigated seminal cases such as:  Jensen v. Weeks Marine, Inc. 346 F.3d 273 (2d Cir. 2003); Uzdavines v. Weeks Marine, Inc., 418 F. 3d 138 (2d Cir. 2005); and Tobler v. Verizon Pa., Inc., 120 A.3d 448 (Pa. Commw. Ct. 2015).  Further, each of the partners frequently lecture and write about the Longshore Act and related issues. Christopher J. Field, Partner

Licensed to practice in New Jersey and New York

Mr. Field is a graduate of Villanova University and New York Law School. Mr. Field is a founding member of Field & Kawczynski and dedicates the majority of his professional time to the defense of claims brought under the Longshore and Harbor Workers' Compensation Act and its extensions. He is a frequent lecturer and author on topics related to the Longshore Act. Mr. Field litigated the cases of Jensen, 346 F. 3d 273, and Uzdavines, 418 F.3d 138

John E. Kawczynski, Partner

Licensed to practice in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and New Jersey

Mr. Kawczynski is a graduate of Boston College and Villanova University School of Law.  Prior to founding Field & Kawczynski, Mr. Kawczynski clerked for a two-year term for the Honorable Robert D. Kaplan, District Chief Administrative Law Judge for the U.S. Department of Labor in Camden, New Jersey, whereby he prepared decisions and orders in connection with Longshore Act, Black Lung Benefits and workplace standards cases. Thereafter, he worked at a major insurance defense firm in Philadelphia for five years.  Mr. Kawczynski is a frequent author and lecturer on Longshore related topics. He also serves on the advisory board to the Benefits Review Board Service-Longshore Reporter. Mr. Kawczynski litigated in the recent case of Tobler, 120 A.3d 448. At present, he is also the Municipal Prosecutor in South Amboy,  Metuchen, and Piscataway.

Andrea M. Beckford, Associate Attorney

Licensed to practice in New Jersey 

Ms. Beckford is a graduate of Le Moyne College and Rutgers Law School. Ms. Beckford was an Articles Editor on the Women's Rights Law Reporter and was published in Tulane Law School's Sports Lawyers Journal, vol. 26.  Prior to joining Field & Kawczynski, she clerked for the Essex County Superior Court in the Civil Division. As a recent addition to the firm, Ms. Beckford is eager to begin working in our areas of practice.
